Mildred Ballard was one of Kernersville's best known folk artists. Many of her paintings are idyllic scenes of early Kernersville and life on the farm, but her subjects could be as varied as castles in far away lands to powerful religious images. She sold her art out of local businesses and a small studio in what is now the headquarters of the Kernersville Little Theatre. She was often known to barter her paintings for just about anything she wanted.
